Dichloroethane (chemical formula: C2H4Cl2; Cl(CH2)2Cl, formula: 98.97), namely o-dichloroethane, is a halogenated hydrocarbon, commonly represented by DCE. Dichloroethane is a colorless or light yellow transparent liquid, melting point -35.7℃, boiling point 83.5℃, density 1.26g/cm³, flash point 17℃, insoluble in water, mainly used as vinyl chloride (PVC monomer) preparation process intermediate, also used as solvent. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature with a chloroform-like odor. It is toxic and potentially carcinogenic. Possible solvent alternatives include 1, 3-dioxane and toluene. Dichloroethane has oxidation resistance, does not corrode metal, in the case of high heat, open flame, strong oxidants have the risk of combustion and explosion.
